They’ve seen fire and they’ve seen rain. But these days, employees of a Jackson Township company spend more time than ever warding off a natural enemy none of us can see.
Design Restoration and Reconstruction, probably better known for cleaning and fixing fire-gutted, flood-ravaged and storm-damaged houses and buildings, also offers a disinfecting and sanitizing service. It’s a niche that’s recently exploded with the onset of COVID-19.
“We’ve probably done 50 of those jobs the last two weeks,” said Greg Campbell, a co-owner along with Ray Santiago, in an 18-year-old business that also includes a satellite office in New Philadelphia.
Design Environmental clients have included schools, private and government offices, athletic clubs and gyms, senior living facilities, child care centers, owners of multi-unit buildings and fire departments, as well as their EMS vehicles.
Technicians, outfitted in full protective gear, spray a dry fog called SteraMist, typically only on high-touch surfaces to kill germs. The formula and application technology is from TOMI Environmental Solutions, a global bacteria decontamination and infectious disease control company based in Beverly Hills.
